Signs
September 5th
Dear Mark,
Today was the first day of school. A fresh new start, new supplies, and new students with their eager little faces to occupy my time. One of them decided to go into my top drawer and make a chain out of my paperclips. I found it on the floor. So I of course had to give them “the talk” you know the one I mean.
As I lay here, several well-meaning voices still echo through my mind. I wish I could have started back at a different school.
October 5th
Dear Mark,
Early this morning I went to a place I have not been in years, the park. I decided to walk into work and took a shortcut through it. The leaves are changing colour here now. I never really noticed how pretty it could be. It would have been perfect if you were with me.
November 5th
Dear Mark,
The crisp autumn days are slipping away here and it looks as though it will be an icy winter. Tonight Spike took me for a walk. I wish he would not pull so hard on his lead. Then it started to rain. I was in a hurry to get home. Just as we turned the corner and were nearly here, he just stopped, tilted his head to one side, and refused to move. I tugged on the lead but he would not budge so I had to pick him up and carry him the rest of the way. I got soaked through and now I am chilled to the bone. I had a cup of tea and put myself to bed but I cannot seem to get warm. I miss lying next to you in the bed.
December 5th
Dear Mark,
We had our first snowfall last night but it was not so much that they had to close school, I am sure that will come soon enough. These days I find the park is the perfect place to clear my head. I do not even mind the sun setting so early. I promise you, I always leave before the dark sets in though. I settled myself down on the edge of a bench this afternoon and listened to the breeze rustling through the trees. It almost sounded like someone was whispering to me.
January 5th
Dear Mark,
I finally took down the tree today after work. I would not have put it up this year but your mother insisted on coming around during the holidays. I had to do it for her sake. Still I made it through with a smile. Some days I feel stronger than others but every day I wish you were here.
These beautiful photos belong to Eric and can be found in the gallery located here. The Buddha Rocks Project has been going on all week and is hosted by Evelyn.

Wow. what else can I say. My favorite post so far this round out of all of us… First of all, the use of multiple pictures like that, to carry the letters, the progression of the story, the details, crisp pictures.
Great job. So impressive.
Thank you so much Evelyn. The two heart shaped leaves have been speaking to me since day 1 but it was not until I decided to put them together that I realised what they were saying.
This is like a project within a project – very cool! (Who knew I had so many heart photos?)
I actually found quite a few more and almost made this a longer piece using them as well. They were all equally beautiful though. Thanks for letting them be used to inspire.
Oh, melancholy magic. I adore what you’ve done with this.
Loved. Robin
Inspired, sadly beautiful post. Love each photo, each letter, the story unfolding gently, wonderful.
Lovely! I love the pictures and the letters.
