Sunshine and Blogging – Do they mix?

This is just a quick post but it is one I have been thinking about for a couple days. Summer always presents me with a little challenge when it comes to writing. In the winter it is so much easier to curl up inside earlier in the evening and write. The glorious sunshine and late days makes summer days less likely to be lazy ones for me. I find myself doing more and writing less. The only struggle this really causes me is when inspiration hits (and it often hits harder in the summer) and I have no will power to go inside and get down to business. Plus summer is the time when social events seem to be at their peak and finding time to write can be harder (unless your friends don’t mind you typing under the table at their wedding or barbecue).

I know several of my blogging buddies are shutting down business for the summer. This is a trend I noticed last year. I know many of them will be back when the cooler days creep in and I look forward to their return. Several other bloggers I know have become the victims of the life balancing game and have given up blogging for various personal reasons. No matter why they have left the blogging scene I wish them all the best and will miss reading their posts.

As for my own blog – I think it too will be slimmer in the next few months but I will still post whenever the mood and energy suit me.

How about the rest of you, do you find it harder to write and update your blogs in the summer months or do you find no difference in your routine?

  1. Having the kids at home over the summer means less time for everything! We also spend a lot of time outside. I slowed down my interview series last summer but kept blogging. This year there are two exciting book releases in August, so I’ll definitely be writing about those. But I like your idea of slowing down posts for the season. I might try that!

  2. I do, Billie Jo, yes. And for all the same reasons you mention. Plus, right now I am trying to make some headway on getting the WIP finished. So, like you, I will probably only post when I really feel I have something that can’t wait to be said.
Enjoy your more relaxed pace. 🙂

    • Same to you!

And yes, I hope to finish one WIP this summer and then somehow do something in terms of getting at least one of the others ready for an agent and hopefully then find one that is interested.

Bank holiday weekends here tend to be wet so sunshine isn’t a problem at the moment 🙂

There are more distractions in sunny weather. It can be difficult to find the balance and get the work done you want to. I guess if you really want to write you’ll find the time.

    Good luck finding the balance.

I’m trying to find balance. I spend way too much time reading blogs, and not doing other things. The year is getting away from me! I’m going to have to cut back somewhere, but I’m having a hard time doing that.
